BACKGROUND INFORMATION Bill Player was born in Manhattan and grew up in Washington, D.C., where he earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy at George Washington University. In addition to completing his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at New York University, he underwent four years of postdoctoral training in contemporary psychoanalytic theory and technique, also in New York City. He maintained a private practice in New York until 1990, at which time he moved to Winter Park, Florida (an Orlando suburb) where he now does individual, couple and group therapy. In private practice, Bill helps men and women struggling with their relationships and with other troublesome issues. He utilizes a relational, psychodynamic approach in individual, couple and group settings. In working with clients, he relates in an empathic, vulnerable and authentic manner - and he encourages his clients to do the same, first in the therapeutic relationship and then in other important relationships in the world at large. Bill is a co-founder and past-president of FORS (Florida Organization for Relational Studies), an organization dedicated to advancing the training of mental health professionals who are dedicated to the practice of deep and transforming psychodynamic psychotherapy. He also runs supervision groups for therapists interested in advancing their therapeutic skills and theoretical understandings. Consequently, he is aware of the abilities of a number of talented professionals to whom he can refer with confidence.
